Earth Day was a hoot! Go HERE to see some pictures

Garden Fencing: April 2008: The Board voted to allocate the funds and has awarded a contract to Vista Fence to install an 8’ tall vinyl coated chain link fence around the Garden. This will greatly enhance the security of the Garden and allow the Board to move forward with the planting of some of our more valuable specimens.

Major Construction Underway! March, 2008: We are proud to announce that Alta Vista Garden has completed the planting of their new Welcome Garden

Garden Boundary Adjustments! The Garden has agreed to the City request for a boundary adjustment. The area formerly known as the Japanese Garden has been ceded to the Park to be used as parking for the Moonlight Amphitheater. In exchange, the park has given the Garden the area currently used for the Park maintenance area. This area includes a service building with indoor storage and offices as well as a home that the Garden will be able to rent out in the future for an income stream. Map of new property line

Jungle Garden Lake: The Garden has received final approval from the City building department for the construction of the Garden Jungle Lake. Discussions are under way to set a date for the commencement of construction.

John Futrell Remembrance: February 2008: Construction has moved forward in this area with installation of an irrigation system and many new plants. This Garden Area is in a constant state of evolution and expansion.

Volunteer Opportunities: While still very much at its developmental stage, the Alta Vista Garden welcomes you to participate in its evolution. We are in the process of expanding areas of the garden according to the Master Plan. The greenhouse in being renovated for propagation and collection care. Call (760) 945-3954 to contact the Alta Vista Gardens volunteer coordinator Don Nelson. He is available at the Garden House on the first and third Monday's of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  For driving direction, click on the hot link at the bottom of this page.

Work Days: Work days have been scheduled for the third Saturday of each month from 8 to 12 noon.

The following dates have been scheduled April 19th, May 17th, June 15th, July 20th 2008

Upcoming Events

July 4th, 2008: Dinner and Fireworks: Enjoy the Vista 4th of July annual fireworks display from the best seats in the house. This year the Garden has arranged to offer a sit down catered dinner on the bluff overlooking the launch location of the fireworks
