Letter from the President of Alta Vista Gardens

Thank You... Very much!!! ... for helping make our 2009 Earth Day Festival a great success!

There were many positive comments throughout the day. Our vendors were quite satisfied with the number of visitors. I estimate that we had approximately 500 guests during the event.

It was quite festive with the; Lion Dancers, Jumping Castle, Children's Activities, Miss Vista & Princesses, Mayor & City Council, City Officials, Vendor diversity, Speakers, Food, Art Displays, all with a dose of great weather.

We had great exposure to the community which will further our goal to grow at a more rapid pace. North County Times was in attendance which will give Alta Vista Gardens and our Earth Day Festival even greater visibility and validity to help expand our reach.

Well done!!! Thanks Again,

Todd Cure’- President of Alta Vista Gardens

A beautiful Earth Day at the Alta Vista Gardens in Vista

On April 25, The Alta Vista Botanical Gardens in Vista was the perfect setting to celebrate Earth Day. The Garden’s motto “Bringing Together People, Nature and Art” perfectly described the wonderful combination of community activities, visitors and volunteers that took part in the festival.

Local royalty, in the presence of Miss Teen Tri-City Princess 2009, Miss Teen Tri-city Queen 2009, and Miss Pride of Vista 2009, along with Mayor Vance and City Council members Judy Ritter and Steve Gronke were present to hear the announcement of the winner of the naming contest for the Children’s Garden which was Haley Lindsay’s “Bugs, Birds, & Butterflies”.

A host of civic groups shared this beautiful little jewel of a site with the families who came to honor Mother Earth and learn about plants, products and procedures to help them be better custodians of our resources, and Mother Nature herself provided the perfect weather – sunshine and a slight breeze all day.

Bamboo products, from frames from the Art & Frame Studio in Vista, were on display along with local artists’ hand-made jewelry, and glass art pieces, and healthy food sources information. Free lectures on drought-resistant landscaping, worms, water, and other topics were held in the community room. Visitors enjoyed strolling in the sculpture garden and trail paths.

Three pairs of Chinese Dragon dancers made a light-hearted and colorful race around the children’s garden while youngster bounced around in the hay, had flowers painted on their cheeks and listened to the storyteller while Roxy the Recycling Robin, escorted by North San Diego Fut Bol Club members, made an appearance for the children,

Artwork on display, some with a practical purpose such as colorful birdhouses, and magnificent photographic scenes of nature were for sale at modest prices as were many of the plants featured in the lectures.

Raffles and auctions, Scout Troop 787 activities, and a Lions Club cook-out, helped raise funds for a future project of developing the Children’s Garden. But it wasn’t just the prizes that made folks go home a winner – it was the fact that everyone came together to share a wonderful place and helping to keep our community beautiful and healthy. Thank you all.
