      Alta Vista Gardens

VISTA ---- The Woman's Club of Vista gave away $69,000 in grants to 29 organizations at a luncheon on May 13 at the Shadowridge Country Club. The grants ranged from $500 to $4,000.

As the grant recipients were announced, representatives from the organization came forward to accept the checks and gave a brief talk about what their organizations are all about and what they planned to do with the money.

Patricia Robey, a longtime club member, said recipients were chosen by a committee after reviewing suggestions from club members.

Those receiving grants were the Alpha Project, Alta Vista Gardens, Angels Foster Families, Assistance League, Center for the Blind in Vista, Brother Benno's, Boys & Girls Clubs, Breast Cancer Fund, Canine Companions, Elizabeth Hospice, Garden of Innocence, Girls Inc., New Haven Home and Family Services, North County Humane Society and the Society for the Protection of Animals.

Also receiving grants were North County Lifeline, Operation Hope, Project Care, Parkinson's Disease Association, Rancho Buena Vista Adobe, Solutions for Change, to Scripps for bone marrow research, Veterans Association of North County, Vista Fire Department, Vista Sheriff's Department, the Gloria McClellan Senior Center, Vista Art Foundation, Women's Resource Center, Helen Woodward Animal Center, Wounded Warrior Project and the Armed Forces YMCA.

Among those attending were Karen Redmond and club president Lynn Sapin and her husband, Dan. Also in attendance were Vista City Councilwoman Judy Ritter, Mary Lou Clift, Bryan Morse, Miriam Nichols, Bill Kincaid, Sandy Miller, Suzy Martinez, Brandee Clayton, Roselle Martin, Julie Ross, Carol Yunt, Marcy Rose, Ruth Schnider and Annie Scott. Capt. Tim Curran and Sgt. Tom Ness represented the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Also attending were Ann Wanczuk, Betty Beck, Margie White and Stephanie Cavanaugh.
